Welcome to my blog! I'm Holly, a family historian and writer with a passion for all things genealogy. I am so glad you've found your way here. This blog is a project I started in 2023 to preserve my family's story for myself and future generations. My focus is sharing the stories of my family and others who have called this small community around Shiloh home. Whether the stories take place in the 1850s, 1910s, or 2020s, I am excited to share them all!
How It All Began
My journey into genealogy started in 2020 with an unexpected discovery—an old photo album belonging to my great-grandaunt Bea. Its worn leather cover and delicate pages held faces I had never seen before, sparking a curiosity that led me to Ancestry and the creation of my family tree. But my biggest inspiration was my grandma. She was the family historian and loved talking about the "old days." Growing up, I was fortunate to hear her tell stories about our family. Her room was like an archive, filled with records, documents, postcards, letters, and, old photographs. Her passion for preserving history always fascinated me, and I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Now I get to, and I dedicate my blog to her.
Why the name "Shiloh Stories"?
When I created my blog, I wanted to give it a name that genuinely mattered to me, and after careful thought, Shiloh Stories felt perfect. The name comes from historic Shiloh Methodist Church, a little brown church nestled in the woods, rich in history and special to my family. It's the heart of traditions like the annual church reunion and Christmas Tea. Every time I visit, I feel at home.
